The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) defines Americanism as  a love of country, loyalty to its institutions and ideals, and a willingness to defend it against enemies. It also includes a commitment to the flag, and a desire to secure liberty and posterity. The VFW believes that it is the responsibility of American citizens and members to defend the United States in both peace and war.
